Both Full Metal Alchemist and Scrapped Princess were animated by Studio Bones. Thus with the same character designers/animation staff, of course characters will look similar. The only problem here is, Scrapped Princess was made first, thus, FMA characters look like Scrapped Princess characters. Why don't you give a show a chance and see if you like the story, characters, setting, music, etc... Still images can do little to let you know what an anime is going to be like. For example, I was turned off by the initial character designs I saw for Noein. Now that I've seen the series, I rank it as one of my favorites.
